Looking Your Best: Careful planning is the key to a successful portrait. Think about what theme and feeling you want for your portrait (formal, casual, studio, outdoors, color or black & white, light colors or dark). Solid clothing is best, especially in group portraits. Large prints, patterns and stripes are distracting and draw attention away from the face. For classic portraits, avoid clothing that is trendy or dates the picture. Avoid characters on childrens clothing. White and light color clothing emphasizes weight, while dark colors and black, reduces. Wear clothing that you are comfortable in, that flatters you and brings out your own personality. Good fit is very important. If more than one person is in the portrait, keep the clothing in the same color tones. Make sure that they match and blend well together. Be consistant. Dress in all long sleeves, sweaters, short sleeves, all casual or all formal, etc. Stay with solid colors with groups. For black and white photos, texture is the key. Clothing with lace or denim looks really nice in B&W. Long sleeves look best on adults. Don't overlook the shoes and socks. Make sure they are clean and they match your outfit. Children look very cute with bare feet. Your hair coloring and cut should be fresh. Avoid sparkle or shiny make-up as it causes light spots from the reflections. When scheduling an appt. for children, make the appt. during your child's happiest time of day. Keep your child's nap and feeding schedule in mind. If your child is sick on the day of your appt., feel free to reschedule. |
